Liberty Bar

Liberty Bar leans to the left in San Antonio, TX. It is now closed (hopefully just for brief renovations?).

Pearl Brewery

The old Pearl Brewery in San Antonio, TX, no doubt once the crown jewel in a brewing empire, now converted to apartments, a great place for frat parties, and possibly still a brewery as well.

Purple Building

A building I like near the art museum in San Antonio, TX.

Towns And Roads

A few shots of buildings from villages in Dominica, a volcanic West Indian micro-nation. What I didn't manage to get a good shot of are the scores of little colored flags affixed to all manner of private property in all of the villages. The flags were colored to indicated support for various Prime Minister candidates in a surprise election to be held at the end of the week (a single small red flag is visible in the top right of the above picture). I've been told that people in other countries are actually interested in things like elections and soccer that don't hold the attention of Americans, but now I believe it--those things were everywhere!

Water Tower

This is what turn-of-the-century architectural water towers in roundabouts with excellent observation decks at the top look like.
And this is the stairway you can climb to the top for fantastique Seattle views.
And this is the grating on the windows to you don't fall out and bump your head.
And this is the tree outside the window.
And these are the clouds from the top of the tower.
Downtowns.
Spike with towers in the background.

Matt's in the Market

Matt's in Pike Place Market is very pretty, though not as veggie-friendly as I would have liked.
Especially because it was expensive. Thomas' beans were really good though.

Granbury Town Square Trip

Granbury is south-east of Fort Worth about one hour. We went there after tubing in Glen Rose. I read in a guidebook that the revitalization of the town square here set off the trend for other towns in the area. If you've been around Dallas enough you've seen at least a couple touristy little downtowns. This one had some nice pictures but after a couple of hours in the 100 degree heat we took off for the city-built beach on Lake Granbury a few blocks away.
Buildings made of stone from the Brazos River.
Thomas, searching for a mere washroom, finds so much more.
Architectural detail on the old jail, now a museum.
Old ass car.
Nothing satisfies your craving like sushi and donuts.

Downtown Austin

Last month's Austin trip was the first time I paid attention to some of the cool old buildings downtown, and how they contrast with the modern condos going up all over the place. Here are some in picture form.
Old building, new condos.Club facade in the morning light.
I am the only one who thinks this building is a scourge?
And more new condos.
The Elephant Room, where no one trusted me to go after I took them to Lovejoy's, which I still contend is a great bar. The beer is great, and after 1.5 pints you don't notice the smell and the bartenders yelling at you is just funny.
Old and new: Mexicarte and Frost Bank Building.
