New City Hall. OK. I know we weren't crazy about this when they were building it. We don't like change and they did knock down some cool shite to put it there. However, at least they made a beautiful building worthy of our town. I will give them that.
Native plants growing outside City Hall.
Town Lake on the other side of the street. Sculptural drainage thing in front of City Hall

Artsy Shots of Being Out in Austin
Warm and buzzy, my lens and I wait on the street corner while the others settle their bills.
Moonshine's porch with old-fashion rockers. I think I am the only one who likes the heat enough to find this inviting on a July night.
"Everyone has a high-rise!" Austin has changed, but I still feel comfortable here.
Lots of energy!
Eight-handed Vishnu musician at the Red Fez.
Multimedia DJ goodness.
Hay Mr. DJ!
I think Rainbow Cattle is awesome and everyone else is free to agree with me.

Screw Staying in Hotels That Don't Have Marble Staircases
This place was ok, if you don't mind that they only have two baby grands in the lobby, as far as I could tell. And the stack of fresh warm towels delivered straight to our door on request was nice, but you'd think some one would have had the foresight to realize that we would also need complimentary chocolate mints delivered on top of those towels? Really.
View from the marble staircase the morning after our late-night arrival. I only count eight columns in the grand entryway. They look to be 20-footers rather than 30-footers. I guess they were trying to save trees?
And while I'm on the subject, honestly they could have used a few more antique hand-worked decorative columns around the place. I mean what is this, a third world country? Srsly, I think I might write a letter to management. Or get concierge to do it. Yawn.
From HauntedTexas.com:
"Singer Annie Lennox and her band, the Eurythmics, enjoyed more than just "sweet dreams" during a stay in the 1980s. In her room before a show she laid out two dresses on the bed. Unable to decide which to wear, she decided to take a shower. After nearly 45 minutes of primping, she stepped out of the bathroom to discover only one dress left lying on the bed. The other was hung up nicely in the closet! Taking the recommendation of her visitor, she wore the dress on the bed. What's even more interesting is that her room was locked, and she was the only one with the key. Also, she had not yet unpacked, and the closet was completely empty except for the dress."
There's no way I'm not going to believe that!
That Lindsay is fascinated by the bathroom surprises no one.
It's the best public bathroom I've ever seen!!
Copper ceiling and stained-glass lights in the bar above the lobby.
See the bride?
We made do, I suppose. We're a pretty tough lot.
